Due to the collaboration of the Cooperative Groups, the Scientific Secretariat of SEOM has drawn up a document that combines the justification, purpose, objectives and results of the Spanish clinical research groups.
SEGO is the Federation of the Societies of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Autonomous Communities of Spain. With its over 120 years of existence, it has the privilege of being the oldest Scientific Society of our branch in the whole of Europe.
The prime purpose or object of SEOM is to encourage study and research into neoplastic disease and procure the official approval of clinical and therapeutic criteria in its diagnosis and treatment, which it sets out to achieve by:
- Promoting the development of suitable therapeutic means through research at all levels: basic, experimental and clinical.
- Procuring the coordination of these means on a harmonious and complementary basis.
- Fomenting uniformity of criteria for the treatment of cancer in its diverse localizations and extents.
The National Oncological Research Centre (CNIO) was set up in 1998 by the Carlos III Health Institute, under the aegis of the Ministry of Health. CNIO is managed by a foundation, established at the same time as the Centre, which is called the Carlos III National Oncological Research Centre.
The basic aim of CNIO is to carry out high-quality research and endow the National Health System with innovative technology in the field of cancer.
